Three Reno gymnasts win national championships

RENO, Nev. (Nevada Press Release) – Reno’s Legacy Trampoline and Tumbling’s Malik DePasquale, Quinn Ross, and Casey Chandler all won gold medals at last month’s Trampoline and Tumbling national championships in Providence, Rhode Island.

“(I’m) ecstatic,” said DePasquale. “Considering I’ve only even been in this sport for a year, I was thoroughly impressed and proud of myself.”

“There’s no other feeling like it,” said Ross. “When you finally lock in the gold, it’s a great feeling.”

The competition featured the very best trampoline and tumbling had to offer from all across the nation.

“This is the crème de la crème,” said Mig O’Hara, owner and head coach at Legacy T and T. “This is the highest level in our national competition.”

“I am extremely proud,” said Richelle Harris, manager and co-head coach at Legacy T and T. “These guys work so hard and it is really important for this area.”

Trampoline is now an Olympic event, but power tumbling and double mini trampoline are not, and these athletes take great pride in putting the sports on the map, especially when they can represent Northern Nevada.

“Northern Nevada is not a great hot spot for super powerful gymnasts, so it’s a great feeling to represent this part of the area,” said Ross.

“(Spanish Springs HS grad) Jake Dalton was also a good example of that,” said DePasquale. “(He’s a) current Olympian. It just shows that the area has something in the water I guess.”

“Especially coming from such a small club,” said Harris. “We’re tiny in comparison. Southern California runs 450 athletes. Our team is twenty. So to have three come from our tiny little club, we’re ecstatic.”

Next up for Ross is a trip to Portugal in October to compete for the US national team. He has set up a Gofundme page: https://www.gofundme.com/csgfrs2c
